Coastal flights - Updates

As usual, for the Heavy Rains Season, Coastal will suspend flights to Selous and Ruaha; kindly check below, reconfirm flights and send amendments as necessary. Here the details:


From Dar to Selous and Ruaha:
Last flight for the current season will be on Sunday, 27^th March 2011
First flight for the new season will be on Wednesday, 01st June 2011

From Arusha to Ruaha:
Last flight for the current season will be on Sunday, 27^th March 2011
First flight for the new season will be on Wednesday, 01st June 2011

And, to remind all of you again of our seamless timetable:

The Serengeti has been linked to the Ruaha directly: Guests flying Southbound from Serengeti (Kigali) will enjoy a short rest in Arusha and continue for Ruaha at 1330 hrs, inducement stop at Tarangire, and reaching destination at 1600 hrs approx.  The Northbound flight will leave Ruaha at 0945hrs and link seamlessly to The Serengeti (and also to Kigali)

Guests wishing to fly to Ruaha and Selous, during the heavy rain season, can be flown, of course, on private charter.

Oliver's Camp - closing early for refurbishment

Olivers Camp is having a refurb and will close a month earlier than planned to carry out all the work.

Tanapa Fee Collections

TANAPA FEES COLLECTIONS AT MIKUMI,RUAHA AND UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARKS

Effective from January 01, 2011 TANAPA will start accepting cards as means of payment of park fees at Mikumi Main Gate, Udzungwa Main Gate and Ruaha(main Gate Y-junction, Msembe and Jongomelo airstrips).

Tour Operators  are hereby advised to collect TANAPA branded cards at the following CRDB Branches Iringa, Kilombero, Musoma,Arusha, Meru,Mapato,Usa river and Moshi.Private tourist with either local or international VISA/Mastercard Cards can use their cards for payments of park fees, using Point of sale machines already deployed at respective entry points.

Nomad Trust - new pledge

The Nomad Trust has just pledged $2000 to an environmental and educational youth centre in Usevya  (Katavi). The project is in conjunction with Tim Caro and Monique Borgerhoff-Mulder: Professors from University of California –Davis, and Winters rotary club. 

The hall will be used to conduct seminars on HIV prevention, cultural traditions and environmental education, as well as housing a small library and computer room with satellite internet access.

News from Baraza / Breezes and The Palms

Breezes Beach Club and Spa

Following our ongoing commitment to improving and upgrading of our services at Breezes, we will close for approximately three and ½ weeks from May 3 to May 29 2011 inclusive.

If you had bookings at Breezes from 3-29 May 2011 inclusive, these clients will be upgraded to Baraza Zanzibar at the Breezes rates on half board basis for this period. Also, if you have any new bookings for Breezes from 3-29 May 2011 inclusive these bookings will be accommodated at Baraza Resort and Spa at a special rate. Please contact us for more details. Also, the special offers/special honeymoon offer will not be valid during the closure period. Our reservations department will be providing you with further details on this and what rates will be applied for the bookings and applicable meal plans.

Baraza Resort and Spa

Baraza Resort and Spa will remain open during the period that Breezes is closed. Any new bookings during this period 3-29 May 2011 inclusive for Baraza Zanzibar will be accommodated on a very special half board rate. Please contact us for more details. However, during this short period the rates will be on half board basis, therefore the fully inclusive option will not be available. Also, the special offers/special honeymoon offer will not be valid during the closure period. Any bookings that are already booked and confirmed at Baraza for this period 3-29 May 2011 inclusive will be upgraded to The Palms on all inclusive basis.

The Palms, Zanzibar

The Palms Zanzibar will be closed from 28 March - 19 April 2011 inclusive for refurbishments and standard maintenance.  Baraza Resort & Spa will remain

Tarangire walks from Swala

Unfortunately Swala are currently unable to offer walks in Tarangire, from their camp, due to new and strict protocols being imposed on the movement and allocation of firearms (carried by walking scouts). They hope this will be resolved without too much delay - and have applied for necessary new permits.

Mashariki Palace Hotel - New on Zanzibar

We like the look of the new Mashariki Palace Hotel, opening in Stone Town in January 2011. This 18-room boutique hotel also has a solarium and massage (with hammam scrubs) as well as a sea view terrace/bar.
